Today’s Verse, 1 Peter 3:18
Wednesday, December 28, 2016
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:18
Reflections on Today’s Verse
Finished. “It is over!” Completed. No more! The book is shut. These are the victory cries of every Christian. Jesus, fully man and God, died, rose physically again for the grave, and conquered spiritual death forever. Because of Him, we have new life. Does that not excite you, dear Christian? Does that not bring a new light to all your problems this day?
Does that not put hesitancy in your heart to serve, love, and tell others about Jesus Christ? It blows my mind. It should blow yours, too. It is hard enough to comprehend that God would act on our behalf. It is beyond comprehension that Jesus would take our place, spilling His blood so we could spend eternity with Him. No matter how often it is pointed out, Buddha and Mohammed didn’t trade their lives for their followers.
They didn’t spill any sinless blood because they had none to offer. Only Jesus was qualified, and He laid His life down willingly. Jesus, and only Jesus, is hope of our hearts.
Father, truly help me catch the essence of what this verse is saying. Father, I am to live for you because you gave your life for me. It is not silver or gold or popularity that I am to seek after. It is you, your Gospel, and your presence. Father, thank you that it is enough to be satisfied with these things alone. Thank you that you made him, Jesus, who knew no sin to be sin on my behalf. Lord, I am forever grateful. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
