Today’s Verse, 2 Timothy 2:15

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

Reflections on Today’s Verse

God doesn’t want us to miss advancing our studies with Him. He knows that our flesh tells us to focus on everything but His Word. Yet, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul urged his young disciple Timothy to seek after knowing “…the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:5). The apostle knew there is nothing else that could keep the fervor and love of Timothy growing for the Lord except this very thing. Are you actively reading and seeking through the Spirit to apply the Bible to your life? Jesus is our greatest example of this. In his temptation episode in Matthew 4, He immediately appealed to the Scriptures, not the wisdom or thoughts of man. Then the devil left him and the angels attended Him (Matt. 4:11). We can’t do things any differently. The Word should be our first source of any help or thought. The Bible should be read, reflected on, and lived out in our lives each day. Ask the Lord today to strengthen you as you find discipline in studying His Word.

Today’s Prayer

Father, I am a student of many things in my life. I have to learn skills at school, job, and in daily life. Thank you for giving me skills to make it in this world. But, Lord, I pray that my greatest desire is to have you as my Lord and to know your Word above all things. Let me not just read the words of your Bible today, but help me, through your Spirit, to apply them to my life to know how to be more like Christ and bring you praise. I pray that the words I read today may be an encouragement and exhortation to someone I pass today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
